  1. Oral magnesium supplementation does not affect insulin sensitivity in people with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes and a low serum magnesium: a randomised controlled trial —> Drenthen LCA, de Baaij JHF, Rodwell L, van Herwaarden AE, Tack CJ, de Galan BE. Diabetologia. 2024 Jan;67(1):52-61. doi: 10.1007/s00125-023-06029-9.

COMMENTARY - Interesting idea for an RCT, with the premise of testing whether or not magnesium supplementation can affect insulin resistance in people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes AND a low magnesium concentration. This was a crossover study design that included only 14 participants, where participants were randomized to receive 360 mg of magnesium for six weeks, or given a placebo. Insulin sensitivity was measured using the euglycaemic clamp technique, the current gold standard for evaluating insulin resistance.
